Chapter Eighteen

Jac

Jac didn't know what he was going to ask her, but she felt her own question burning behind her lips. Her heart picked up an unsteady clatter. Was her imagination playing tricks on her? He wasn't going to ask her about her brother's party.

Even if he was Mystery Guy, what reason would he have to remember something like that? He probably did that kind of thing all the time; kiss girls. He had been the right age for that to make sense, so why would it be special to him because it was her first kiss?

"What?" Jac's eyelids had grown heavy after her screaming orgasm.

Armand looked troubled, like he couldn't get the words out. Jac didn't know what she could do to help him along. Especially since she wanted him to ask her about fifteen years ago. So she decided to steer the conversation in that direction. To get it over with. There would never be a good time, anyway.

"I know this is a weird time to say so, but my brother would have liked you."

The statement threw him for a loop. His brow furrowed in confusion at her left field statement. Then recognition dawned.

Even if it turned out that that was someone else, Armand would still be the sexiest man she had ever seen with two different eyes. Hell, he would be the sexiest man she'd ever seen even if he had no eyes.

"I'm sorry for your loss. At least he got to experience college for a little while."

Armand didn't seem to know what to say.

"Yes. He was missing us at home, though. Or he wanted me to think that he was missing home for my sake. I guess he was glad I was over giving him the cold shoulder for leaving me."

She was opening up to someone besides Shell for the first time since Henry. It was frightening, and Armand's calm demeanor encouraged her to keep going.

"Henry was my best friend and my hero and my replacement dad after ours was out of the picture. He was just… my whole world the whole time I knew him. I still miss him so much, even though it's been so long. I wasn't talking to him because I was sad about him leaving for college. He was my best friend. But then I met this guy at his graduation party and had to tell him, and it brought us back together. I don't know what I
